On July 19, 2022, NYPAY is hosting a comprehensive discussion on one of the hot topics NYPAY has identified – “Core Banking Transformation – To Cloud or Not to Cloud?” The Panel for this night’s event will include Robin Smith – Head of North American Business of Mambu, David Foss – CEO of Jack Henry & Associates, and Ben Maxim – VP Innovation of Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSU FCU). You will hear insights from our panel of experts discussing perspectives of a larger core solution provider, a cloud core solution provider, and an innovative credit union.

The session will cover various points of view on the history of core banking solutions in the United States, the current state of solutions available to a financial institution, and the opportunities and challenges associated with pursuing a cloud-based core banking strategy.

Ron is a financial industry thought leader and a payments and banking expert with experience globally. He is currently a managing director at PayGility Advisors, a payment, banking and fintech consultancy. Most recently he was Director of Strategic Initiatives at Jack Henry & Associates, a leading financial technology company. Prior to that he was Director, Debit Advisory Service at Mercator Advisory Group, a payments industry research analysis and consulting firm.

Ron’s financial services industry roles also included time at JPMorgan Chase in product management and Mastercard as head of worldwide services and product development. He also held advisory roles with financial services consulting firms Edgar, Dunn & Company, Novantas, and Card Associates. Ron has been a frequent speaker at financial services industry, company and client conferences. He has authored multiple articles in financial industry publications as well as produced syndicated market research studies on preferred payments including CobrandDynamics and PaymentDynamics.

Ron is the Founder, Board Member and Officer of NYPAY. NYPAY was founded in 2006 and is the largest industry association in the US for senior executives and innovators in payments, banking and fintechs. In addition, Ron serves on the Boards of CrossTech, a conference and consultancy focused on cross-border remittances and ChannelNet, a customer engagement platform for financial institutions. Ron holds a BA in Psychology from Binghamton University and holds an MSIA (MBA) from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.

Ben Maxim

Ben Maxim

VP Digital Strategy & Innovation, MSU Federal Credit Union

Ben Maxim joined MSU Federal Credit Union in 2007 and currently serves in a dual role as Vice President of Digital Strategy and Innovation for MSUFCU and as Chief Technology Officer for MSUFCU’s wholly-owned CUSO Reseda Group and its subsidiaries Spave and Ever Green 3C. He is responsible for assessing emerging business trends and technologies, providing strategic direction for existing and future digital channels, and facilitating innovation throughout the Credit Union including leading their innovation center The Lab at MSUFCU. He is also responsible for the technology and product pillars of Reseda Group and its subsidiaries including Spave, a financial wholeness fintech and Ever Green 3C a financial education and consulting CUSO. Maxim began work initially as a Web Developer and in 2014, he became E-Commerce Manager before moving into roles including Assistant Vice President of Programming and Development and Assistant Vice President of Software Development. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a professional certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship from Stanford University.

David Foss

Board Chair and CEO, Jack Henry

David Foss is Board Chair and CEO of Monett, Missouri-based Jack Henry & Associates (NASDAQ: JKHY), a leading provider of computer systems and electronic payment solutions primarily for financial services organizations.
Foss began his career in 1985 at NCR as a Systems Engineer installing and supporting core and ancillary banking solutions. He joined Advanced Computer Systems (ACS) in 1989 as a Sales manager marketing banking solutions to community banks in the upper Midwest.

In 1993, Foss left community banking to become BancTec’s Vice President of Professional Services and later Vice President of Operations managing large remittance processing solutions. He became Vice President of Sales for community banking at BancTec in 1997. In 1999 he arranged the sale of BancTec’s financial solutions division to Jack Henry and Associates, joining Jack Henry at that time. From 1999 to the inception of ProfitStars in 2003, he served a dual role as President of the Open Systems group and General Manager of the Complementary Solutions group. He was named president of ProfitStars in 2004, President of Jack Henry in 2014, CEO in 2016, and on July 1, 2021, he was appointed as Board Chair.
Foss holds a degree in Computer Science from Minnesota State University. He has two grown sons and lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife and youngest son.
